INTERVIEW WITH THE CEO OF ZERO HOMES
We received a download from the CEO of Zero on opportunities to reduce emissions around the home. You can find the full Q&A on our website with an excerpt below.
Excerpt:
Q: “If it saves me more, why can’t you finance it, and I give you the upside?”
A: “It’s rare that the savings are sufficient to cover the cost of the equipment. Frankly energy is cheap in North America compared to Europe and often savings are measured in the low hundreds of dollars per year, not nearly enough to help finance a $5-25K project.
Beyond the fact above, it’s incredibly complicated to stand up a performance-based financing product. There are a couple of startups that have done it, Sealed and BlocPower — it took each of them years to get it done — and both products come with several caveats and exclusions. I do believe these are great products, but will likely remain niche until the potential savings numbers increase to what is seen in Europe.”
Here are the average lifespans of major items if it helps you plan a transition
