Will the Vision Pro help the environment or hurt it?
AI is racing to see if it can make the world efficient before consuming all the energy. Environmental businesses can't find customers who care about them. Over 100 jobs are listed for readers.
IN THIS ISSUE
Apple Vision Pro has the chance to change our world, and it will be a battle to see if it’s helpful or harmful to the environment.
Why is it so difficult for businesses to find customers who care about their eco-products? 80% of young adults are willing to pay more for sustainable products but can’t find them, and businesses can’t find these potential buyers.
Environmental grants. Many readers work for sustainable businesses. To help them, we built a summary of available grants.
100+ jobs. Our readers are passionate about the cleantech space and want to get involved. We highlight over 100 open roles to help them and to help company partners.
Emissions Decisions is a weekly newsletter investigating our thesis on environmental trends/solutions. In its initial form, it is about hypothesis testing, and in its later stages, it will provide everything you need to help the environment and even make money while doing so. In return, this medium gives us steady feedback while we build our company. Our long-term goal is to provide tools that power optimal environmental decisions. We truly appreciate the support in achieving this!

The Apple Vision Pro already looks here to stay. What will that mean for the environment?
We want to focus primarily on the consumer behavior changes that may result from Vision Pro. The energy changes and potential demographic impacts are worth touching on briefly, though.
On the energy side, it will drive increased AI tools/content/interactions. AI will undoubtedly require massive amounts of energy. Sam Altman recently said, “There’s no way to get there without a breakthrough,” when discussing why he was investing in new energy startups. At the same time, AI will help drive massive energy efficiencies as it can help connected electronics use power in periods more likely to be generated by renewables. AI is in a race with itself to decide how helpful or hurtful it is.
On the behavior side, more screen time has never been great for birth rates, and now, putting a TV directly on someone’s face should not improve things...
For consumer behaviors, we’ve already heard consumers talk about doing a couple of things, and each of these takes an activity that previously had transport-related emissions and removes them. This will be a positive.
Looking at houses
Having a movie experience that’s better than your TV but not at the theatre
Feeling as if you are in a virtual concert without attending/traveling
Taking classes with other people
Environmental companies need help finding customers who care about them to accelerate broad emissions reductions.
Environmental products are a complex category, as consumers may care about water, methane, carbon, local sourcing, biodiversity, etc. The value for them and the environment also heavily depends on them as individuals (everything from family members to their power grid.).
Whenever a consumer category has this much complexity, an entire ecosystem exists to help customers find the best products (credit cards are an analogous example, as certain credit cards are a better fit for certain people, and users value everything from fees to insurance differently).
These consumer partners/platforms for research and allocation don’t yet exist for environmental goods, but they need to and fast.
That big question mark is what we hope to solve, and we look forward to your feedback and support.
Environmental grants
We now include a comparison of top grants on our website.
Our goal is to help get more environmental solutions into customers’ hands, and grants also help with this.
Teams are welcome to contact us for general thoughts on what is best for them.
